Hey Snow: Hurry up, will ya?

Back in September I wrote about the Anxiety of waiting for winter. Well, the time for the snow to be here is inching closer and closer, wait … shouldn’t it be here already? In fact, it should be dumping by now! But alas, it is not.
This morning I got up and drove my girlfriend to Wilson at 5 a.m. so she could catch a ride to the Idaho Falls airport. Usually when I’m driving toward Wilson at the ungodly hour of 5 a.m., I’m heading to Teton Pass to get a dawn patrol run in on Glory before work. Today was not one of those days.

Driving back to town, it’s hard not to notice ridiculous amount of stars in the sky, even in a sleepy stupor. But once I rounded the corner back into town, one thing commanded my attention: Snow King Ski Area so enthusiastically blasting their snow guns into the clear sky doing their best to get some snow coverage on the hill. I decided to humor myself and drive to the base of the resort, not so much to hear loud whirling guns, but to watch the snow making process. Maybe it was so I could close my eyes and trick my brain into thinking I was standing in a raging snow storm. Unfortunately when I closed my eyes all I could hear was the devilish whirring of the snow guns, so I opened my eyes.
I went to my truck and grabbed my camera, snapped a few photos then drove back home to crawl back in bed. Guess I’ll just have to keep waiting.

Scotty! Your wish came true this morning with the forecast calling for 100% precipitation and an amazing blanket that is still covering the mountains. I think the key is the dawn wake ups! Keep ‘em comin’!
