Town Downhill Recap
With 169 individual starts, over 300 spectators armed with cowbells, and speeds of up to 67 mph, the 2008 Jackson Town Downhill was something to see.
Jackson Hole is one of the last places in the country to organize and support a non-sanctioned Mini-Hahnenkamm downhill race. This year’s event brought athletes ages 18-71 together to compete in Alpine, Telemark, Snowboard and the infamous Fat & Baggy Division.
Shane Hansen, a retired Ski Club athlete, was crowned the 2008 Town Downhill Champion after reaching the reaching nearly 70 mph and although Evel Knievel (Jamie Weymouth) and that guy in a fat suit (Ian Mackay) were both very fast, Jim Bob Shell was the Fat & Baggy Champion and the proud winner of a pair of Igneous skis.
In addition to a great community event, the Town Downhill is one of the key fundraisers for the Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club. The Club provides Alpine, Nordic and Freeride programs to over 400 local young athletes each winter. Through fun and fitness athletes learn about commitment, sportsmanship, leadership and teamwork - values that last a lifetime.
