Racing’s Hottest Crash Pads Make the Big Screen
POC, known for its innovation and commitment to helmets and body armor protection for extreme sports, makes its big screen debut in the live-action film, Speed Racer. The film is an adaptation of the 1960’s Japanese anime series Speed Racer, which follows the adventures of a young racecar driver, “Speed”, (Emile Hirsch) in his quest for glory.
The film features Hirsch driving a Yokohama racecar while wearing a sleek POC Skull Comp helmet. The Skull Comp helmet consists of a thin shell and a layer of patented Aramid membrane penetration barrier. Additionally to optimize energy absorption pneumatic honeycomb pads made of polyurethane are inserted into the inner EPS liner. All of which allows for the helmet to collapse on major impact and absorbing the forces from the outside while minimizing internal bounce and damage to the brain. Swedish engineers and scientists call this “progressive energy absorption,” and this along with POC’s unique design and attention to safety have made this helmet one of the most popular on the World Cup ski circuit.
“Great design coupled with function tends to trump all else, it’s no surprise POC was chosen for Speed’s race helmet,” says Jarka Duba, CEO of POC USA.
Speed Racer may not be ripping big mountain lines or carving GS turns at Moc 10, but check out this POC Krasch montage to see why the world’s fastest racers need a little more than just luck to protect them.

The Wachowski bros certainly put a lot of effort into making Speed Racer… the movie overall looked and felt like a cross between anime, a kaleidoscope, that Flintstones movie, a video game and the Dukes of Hazard
Hey, could ya’ll post that one video of that dude who like almost breaks his head going off his diving board? I think it’s also got the clip of that other dude busting his face trying to flip a dirt bike. And that chick who falls out of a moving car. Freaking HILARIOUS!
More crashes, yo. They rule.
