I think it was last summer that I was telling a friend about the “Screaming Meemies” (A.K.A. the Screaming Barfies) and how bad they suck and how I thankfully haven’t gotten them in a few years. I totally jinxed myself. The Screaming Meemies happen when you over-grip your ice tools and all the blood rushes out of your hands as you climb. You’re hands feel like blocks by the time you get to the belay, you clip into the anchor, relax and then it starts. The blood rushes back into your hands and the short lived pain starts.
So in the past few weeks I’ve made the trek over to Cody, Wyoming a couple times with my buddy Brian Prax to get some of the great ice they’ve had this year. On our first climb, I had the pleasure of getting some of the Meemies and Brian had the pleasure of documenting it with his camera. So putting all ego aside, I put the sequence together and added commentary to this painful process know as the “Screaming Meemies”. So remember kid’s, DON’T OVER GRIP YOUR ICE TOOLS! Have you had them before?! Tell us about how you feel about ‘em!
It started innocently enough. A group of skier friends and even one snowboarder went CAT skiing with Park City PowderCats in the High Uintas. Read More »
A friend sent me a link to this video today and I couldn’t resist posting it. I have no idea where this was taken, but the dog looks just as happy as any ski bum I’ve seen in these past few weeks! The music is a little cheesy, but I’m sure watching this will bring a smile to any snow lovers face.
Skiing in the dark at sub-freezing temperatures with flames in my hands doesn’t put me in the league of Evel Kneivel, but it sure is a fun way to dispense of the old year. Read More »
Like every diehard snow slider, I’ve been praying for snow. I know, I know, everybody is saying the same lame thing, “Dude, pray for snow”, but it must be working because the past week has been incredible. I got a nice 15″ Christmas day at Grand Targhee, I’ve heard numerous Jacksonites claiming they’ve had better powder days in the past week than they had all last season! So this is a good thing, keep it up! Keep Praying!
The last few weeks have been rough ones. The anticipation of snowfall creates an unconscious anxiety that seems to permeate every other aspect of life. Read More »
Back in September I wrote about the Anxiety of waiting for winter. Well, the time for the snow to be here is inching closer and closer, wait … shouldn’t it be here already? In fact, it should be dumping by now! But alas, it is not. Read More »
